“Late Again” was commission by the Salado Civic Center located in the 1920’s old red brick school building on Main Street.
In the 1920’s children were seen working along side their parents on their farms and ranches while going to school for their education. This little boy is dressed in hand-me-down overalls with a pair of pliers in one pocket and a slingshot in the other and his books are strapped together with a belt. The sculpture “Late Again” represents; work, play and the need for education. Taking extra time to run and play with his dog, gives him a chance of being a young boy, although late again to school.
